Rocky Mountain National Park is one of my favorite places in Colorado! Whether you want to see the mountains or want peaceful photos in the woods – it’s the perfect spot. There’s plenty of accessible areas for families or elopements. If you want to go on an adventure or drive along the highest paved road in the US, there’s alpine lakes, meadows, wildlife, and dramatic tundra views to see!
I had the pleasure of visiting during summer and fall last year for engagement photos in the mountains. Each location has such a different vibe during the change of seasons. Curating a portrait session that showcases your personality is my favorite part of photography! If you’re based in Colorado or visiting on vacation, you can consult with me today to plan your Estes Park session at any of these locations.
There’s plenty of alpine lakes around the park with gorgeous mountain views! This was was right by the trailhead. If you want something more secluded, there’s other gorgeous options.

Sprague Lake is very accessible for all ages! Gorgeous leaf peeping trail for the family with a lovely view of the mountains.

Dogs aren’t allowed on the trails around the park, but they are allowed in campsites, parking lots, and overlooks! At Rocky Mountain, even the campgrounds are gorgeous so you can bring your dog along on your adventure.

This is another trail through lakes, but the little walk from one to the other is so pretty! Always a chance you’ll see some wildlife along with the sunset. Rocky Mountain NP is home to large herds of elk, bighorn sheep, and moose. You can also see them in the town of Estes Park, which makes it a great week vacation for the family!

Trail Ridge Road is the highest paved road in the US! It reaches over 12,000 ft and connects Estes Park and Grand Lake. During the fall, it feels like winter temps because of the high elevation. It’s one of the most stunning drives connecting two of my favorite places to visit in Colorado. I would not recommend if you’re scared of heights, but it’s definitely worth it. This mountain vista is one of many to frolic around for your photos!
